2008 Juried Student Exhibit

2008 JURIED STUDENT EXHIBITION AT FAIRMONT STATE UNIVERSITY

On Tuesday evening, April 15, the Fairmont State University Chapter of Kappa Pi, international honorary art fraternity, held the opening reception of its annual Juried Student Exhibition.  The juror, from Morgantown, was Penelyn Peterson, co-owner of the Appalachain Gallery.  Awards were presented during the reception.  Winners in the painting category were: Andrew Smith, first place (Studio), Jason Spinks, second place (Day/Night) and Micah Zbach, third place (Mind Full). Honorable mention in painting went to Tyler Bray (To Work), Miles Holbert (I'm Not Johnny), and Jessica Emerson (Hunt for the Whalemouse and Llamarama).

Stacey Elder won first place for sculpture (Elegance on a String); second place winner was Joanna Aston (Light and Shadow) and honorable mention went to Holly Groves (Lorraine), Andrew Smith (Boot) and William Layman (Native American Walking Sticks).

William Layman won first, second and third places for his ceramic works (Teapot Untitled, Vase and Untitled Pilgrim Jug).  Layman also won two honorable mentions for his ceramics #4 Teapot and #1 Teapot and Nathaniel Zirkle won honorable mention for #2 Cut Vase and #1 Pilgrim Jug.

Photography honorable mention awards went to Micah Zbach for West Virginia Leaves and Untitled.

The Timothy Clayton Memorial Award was won by Trevor Oxley (#3 Unknown), and Best of Show winner was Miles Holbert (Strength of 1,000 Babies).

The exhibition will remain in the Tower Room of Wallman Hall through April 25.  Regular hours: Mondays - Fridays 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Free and open to the public.
