Artist Biography:Mark Soppeland

Mark Soppeland received his BFA from University of Colorado, boulder in 1975 and MFA from Ohio State University in 1976. A painter, sculptor, and designer he has shown his work in over three hundred and fifty exhibition on four continents. He has been awarded four Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist’ Fellowships. During the summer of 2002 he spent two months in Prague, Czech Republic on an OAC International Artists in resident Fellowship. He has created over fifty public art projects including works for Suma Health Systems; Prague Center for Contemporary Art, Prague, Czech rep,; Kelnova Institute; Children’s Hospital medical Center of Akron; Akron-Summit County Public Library; TIME WARNER Cable, The Bravo Networks, and Americans for the Arts; Summit County Children’s Services Board; Cleveland Public theater; Philadelphia Children’s Hospital; metro Health Center; Akron Art Museum; Kohler Art Center; and E J Thomas Performing Arts hall. A Distinguished Professor at the University of Akron he is finishing his thirty-third year of teaching at the Myers School of Art this spring.
